Most, if not all, federal government auctions wipe out all liens on an airplane. However, every once in a while you find a bank, way back on the title, that has gone under and another bank purchased its assets and the new bank thinks the lien is good. It's a huge pain in the you know what.
Fortunately, that's rare.
