You could write an article afterwards. "My Ferry Flight From Florida to Oregon!", or "How I Hi-jacked Bill's Plane to Cuba", or maybe "Plane? What Plane, Bill?".
Think about it?
Gee! If everybody keeps talking like this, Gary, I just might have to charge YOU for the privilage of flying my new bird!
Thanks for the compliment on 72G, Jeff. It's funny how one can become attached to just a vehicle. I really will be sad to see her go. she has been nothing but loyal and faithful. Even so! I am sure getting anzy to get into this new plane and go buzzing about!! :-)
Hung, the only problem with your flight plan, aside from missing Rhode Island, is that Grants Pass is a little down and to the left of your arrow.
I promise to go kinda straight towards Grants Pass. Just in case anyone hasn't noticed, Fuel is hovering around 4.00 per gallon. I'm sure Bill planned on paying for the trip expenses, but if I give him fuel receipts from all 48 states and Cuba, well... Guess I took a wrong turn in New Mexico.
Dan exaggerates about my capable hands just as Hung does about my "extreme maneuvers." I will keep her right side up most of the time (I have to do at least shallow turns to aim it towards Oregon) and will do my level best to give Bill a re-useable airplane. I'm quite sure the trip will heighten my excitement about the one I'm patiently waiting for in Midland.
It seems like it will be a long trip up to Oregon. But I'll get to enjoy that much more. I had thought about flying it to Clinton, IA so it would know the way. That might guarantee Bill and Justina's presence next year.
I'll write a cross country story for the club news letter on the trip. I'll have to have something to do along the way. Perhaps Bill will think of all the fun I'll have and decide to fly it home himself. I'll be sad if that happens.
My last long ferry trip was from San Diego to Decatur, TX in a Piper Seneca I. I did that over two days only because I was restricted by the special flight permit from flying at night. Just as well, I had to return to San Diego with one engine at zero thrust due to the right engine oil temp being pegged on the high side with anything more than 15 inches MP. Didn't need to cage the motor, just had to ease it's load. Turned out the oil cooler was clogged. Left out the next day, overnighted at El Paso, then on the rest of the way non-stop.
BTW, Jeff, I thought a 150/150 would do 200 mph with the big black knob all the way in. Bill's paying the gas bill...
Sorry Bill, just looking forward to the trip.
Later.

Pictures! Pictures! Don't forget to take plenty of pictures! Just kidding about Cuba, but some shots of the coral reefs through that clear water south of Key West would be great, and don't forget kill Devil Hill, and the Statue of Liberty, and Cumberland Pass, and Lookout Mountain, and The Mississippi Queen, and .... Well .... you get the idea!!
I'll have to have something to do along the way. Perhaps Bill will think of all the fun I'll have and decide to fly it home himself.
If the truth be known, there is nothing else I would rather do is to go and get it myself. But returning to Montana for two funerals this year has used up most of my vacation time from work. And the rest I need to save for Christmas. So, Gary, I greatly appreciate your doing this for me. And, of course, I am paying your expenses!
Having you keeping a log of the trip will be really special. Thank you for thinking of it!
Maybe we should bring everybody up to date here about the time line. Presently the plane is in for annual. There is a list of minor squawks the present owner wants to take care of. In addition to these, there is a small dent in the trailing edge of the left elevator. So the owner is having it replaced and painted. The owner did not like the looks of the yokes, so he is replacing them with a pair with installed PTT switches. I think he is also replacing both side windows. And this is all after the agreed price of the sale!
So it will more than likely be a few weeks before the owner will let the plane go. And I am for sure not complaining! Except for the fact of being very eager to get behind the controls!
No. The plane has an extra 50 horsepower. NOT an extra 50 inches cabin width. Besides, it'd cost twice as much to get us back home.
Besides, if I'm going to fly the equivalent distance of global circumnavigation, it'll be a really long trip. Perhaps I could fly up to see Kirk, then fly coast to coast to Grants Pass. Then, come to think of it...I will be flying from coast to coast. Just the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
Bill, one thing I'd really like is for you to take me on a little ride out to the Pacific coast. I see that it's really close to you. I've flown two C-172's from the LA area back here to Arlington, and got to see the southern CA coast. I'd like to see the PNW coast line.
I'm planning on taking whatever time I need to so I can enjoy the trip. I'm looking at taking other employment and this just might fall right in between jobs.
Take care all.
