Access isn't a relational database. IIRC, it fails Codd's rules 0 and 4.

Now, using it for maintenance tracking..... yes you could. Of course, Google reports about 158,000 hits for 'aircraft maintenance tracking software'

And, after clicking Continue, the thought strikes.... 'What if they don't know who EF Codd is?.....'

Dr Edgar Frank Codd formulated the rules that define relational databases, normalization of relational databases and On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) data access rules. I guess you could say he's sorta important in the world of databases....

Relational or not, I still miss "Q&A"... <sniff>

Anyway, I like the idea of using Excel to track things - I hadn't thought of having automatic color codes to highlight items - that's a good idea, Steve.

In the meantime I've been using a "Taylor's Flight Time Logbook" (ie - paper) for tracking maintenance. Designed primarly for flight clubs, it works for me. But Excel would be more effective and able to track more items.

I can't give you the source yet, but here's a snippet
to wet your whistles.

Look at the many tabs along the bottom.
I track all kinds of things.....

Steve,

Understand about posting "all" of the spreadsheet. But what you gave, gives the idea. Thanks.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your advice and ideas - thanks to Steve I have created an Excel spread complete with color-coded conditional formatting and date formulae. Actually enjoyed myself and learnt a bit about Excel in the process.

Thanks once again - especially you Steve!!
