It wasn't cheap, or quick, or easy, but a little bit at a time it happened. Ground school, first flight, first solo, first cross-country... they were all milestones that passed ever so slowly beneath my wings... but one day years after that first leap, it happened! I became a Private Pilot!

You only live once, Jennifer! Almost anyone can afford Ground School, and there's no deadline to get your license. Even one hour a month in the air with an instructor is still an hour logged at the controls of your dream! Don't you owe it to yourself? Take a leap of faith, why don't you?

Carl, that was inspirational for me. To hear an experienced member of the club say that it doesn't matter if it takes years, it CAN be done....and that last bit, "Take a leap of faith, why don't you?"....now that is like putting a light to the tinder box.

I think it would not matter what one flew -- one would want to be a member of the Cessna 150-152 Club anyway. Its people are the absolute best. Thank you to all of you!

I had hoped it would inspire you. I know what it's like to want something so badly.... and have it seem to be just out of reach. Your posts always remind me of my younger self.

There is no timetable! Take as long as you need! Spend only the time and money that you can afford! It certainly isn't the best way, but for me it was the ONLY way. I went through 5 instructors and several years of off again/on again flight training to get my PPL. I repeated training I'd already had, and had to "prove" myself to each new instructor. As I said, it wasn't cheap (not on my salary), surely wasn't "quick", but it was maybe easier than I suggest, and I loved every second in the air! The point is you can't finish until after you start. Get your physical, get a student's license, a logbook, and get started!

I'm watching this space...........

Rick, thanks very much for the article! That was a very informative read. And golly, you make the little Chief sound like the dream tailwheeler, especially for one coming to aviation later in life and needing an extremely kind and forgiving airplane.

Tell me, does EVERYONE get this hankering to look at airplanes and dream of owning their own as soon as the flying bug hits? I've been doing this for years...my family think I have some serious screws loose. Are they right?

Ride? What's this about a Ride? confused The seat I had in mind was the Left Seat! cool We're going to put you to work. I'll go along for the ride. wink

Once we have some firm dates I'm sure we can arrange to fly somewhere where other club members can fly-in and join us for breakfast, lunch, or whatever. Seems like as good an excuse for a get together as any I've seen. laugh

Jennifer, if you have any loose screws, so does just about everybody else! I don't know of anyone who doesn't have a dream to fulfil. I know full grown men and women who never took action on their dreams and still want to be doctors, lawyers, firefighters, police officers, NASCAR drivers, or cowboys/cowgirls, and yes... pilots! You name it, somebody wants to be it! Some of them live their dreams vicariously through their children. Other's keep their dreams secret and never tell anyone.

My wife always knew flying was my first love. I think sometimes she wondered if I would ever trade her for an airplane (never)! She always pretended our marriage and kids was her dream, but a few years ago, long after I had my PPL, she let the truth slip out. She had always wanted to be a cosmetologist! We had been married almost 35 years (at that time) and she had never told me! I was flabergasted. She had wanted me to get my PPL first. I was the "breadwinner", and my dream was "more important". If only I'd known!

She is now a licensed cosmetologist, but could have had her license decades ago, long before I got my PPL (and it would likely have helped our finances considerably if she had)! Water under the bridge. We both have what we want now, and that's important.

I married a Gem (with a couple of loose screws)! grin
