First, the bad news, Matthew. The J-120 [jabiru.net.au] is only available in Australia. (I wonder why?) Thus the reason it didn't show up on the US Jabiru site. Too bad! The good news is that there are going to be many light bulbs flashing over people's head because of your post here. For others, like myself, didn't even think about buying an aircraft overseas and have it shipped here cheaper then actually purchasing one here.

Australian Market site. [auf.asn.au]

Thanks for planting that idea, Matthew!

What a concept! Europeans are buying 152's and shipping them to Europe for the same reason! Now we buy Jabiru's and ship them stateside?

What's wrong with this picture? Nothing, really! That's what the love of flight does... It provide innovative ways to stay in the air, when it has too!

Bill,

G'day,

Its not just "Aircraft" as such o'le mate.....The Key here is to wait till our $$ takes another dive - (only a year or so ago it was at $63c US) - that would be the time to take advantage of the exchange rate and go shopping. Whilst we are still below the US right now (I think around 91-92c), at times we get really well below as you can see,

I did that whole "exchange rate monitoring" thing a little while back when I bought my GPS. Then, the Aus dollar dropped considerable overnight, and before the changes to the local distributers sale prices were advertised, I snapped up a Garmin 495 GPS. Now, whilst I got the GPS for an Un-usually(by most counts down here) good sale price anyway(before it went up again that is) and effectivly made not real change to me in Aussie $$ as such, Had I lived in the US and noticed this change, I could have saved heaps on the US locally bought Price.

To give you an example

At the time, GPS was $1795 AUS, in the US they were $1595 at the same time. The Aussie Dollar then dropped from around 88c to 65c just about overnight, which made the ticket price of $1795 Aus GPS worth $1166 US - thats $432 cheaper than what you could have bought it for in the US....Get my point!!.

Had you guys been watching for that sort of thing, you could have cleaned up on a number of items - GPS, Radio's and so on

It pays to keep an eye on these sort of thing from our end, as I watch it because it is important that I only buy when our Dollar comes back up near yours,(I have to plan ahead for parts, and sometimes stock pile etc) otherwise I'd pay a forture for everything cry - and as you can see, it might pay for your guys to keep an eye on it too...

Cheers

Matt,

My brother in Perth is reaping the benefits of the currently high Aus-US conversion rate. He sends money to me through FOREX and I use that money to buy for him GPS, digital SLRs, lenses, Blackberries, etc. Even after shipping costs from the sellers to me and from me to him, he still saves a lot when compared to buying those items in Australia.

Yep, so true Hung, its a sad fact we get shafted down here on most goods/services just about 100% of the time, especially when compared to you guys!!!

I now regularly look for cost comparisons on just about everything out side of Oz first - if nothing else. than to see what I should be getting it for and to make an informed decision as to where I'll get the best deal, I'd prefer to, and usually buy locally generally speaking, but when there is a significant difference with all costs considered then I buy O/S, I mean hey...money is money, its too hard to come by an so easily depleted

Cheers

Buy your stuff from China, just like the U.S. does. That's the wave of the future. They have 1.5 billion workers who work for cheap, and they keep the value of their currency purposely low. They'll be calling the shots soon.

==>> Looks like I'm "stepping away" from aviation after all. Bye, folks!
