I've only seen towbars still attached or chocks left in place a couple of times, and they've rarely been immediately prior to flying. I've always seen it happen when someone is taxiing from the fuel pump back to their hangar/tie down. I guess maybe not as much forethought is expended sometimes when not actually flying?

This wasn't a Bonanza by any chance was it? We had a guy do just what you described, taxi for take-off, took off and after he got 50 feet in the air decided he should abort and check for damage. Problem is though he aborted he didn't put the gear back down. cry Surprise surprise this guy is a Doctor. whistle

Anyway, maybe the mirror is to make sure the gear is down prior to landing crazy laugh shocked
