Thanks - you are indeed correct about the entertaining reading in the "Questions to the Seller" section! Those were about the best I've seen on E-Bay for anything!
The plane does look really good and is perhaps really worth that much ($42+K) - great avionics - but as one of the folks mentioned, some of the panel photos look like it's from 2009, and others from 1979 with all the cracks and fades! (like in my plane!)
I predict it will go in the mid $30's if the seller decides to part with it! 800+ hours on the 125hp engine is a bit high for that price - not sure what TBO is for that model, but it's probably due an overhaul in a quick four years!

I believe TBO for a Sparrowhawk engine is 2000 hrs, due to higher compression than a standard O-235 engine. If the engine will make it to TBO, that means there are over 1000 hrs left. The average owner flies around 100 hrs/yr, that's 10 yrs of service. But if the owner is a member of the Keystone Flight, he'll probably use it up in four years. | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 519 Member/500+posts | Member/500+posts Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 519 | Yeah, I kind of feel bad for the poor guy, but he really should just ignore the low ballers rather than take the bait. When I bought my 152, I was actually trying to sell it for my dad. I had one guy fly down from Illinois with two mechanics. They spent a whole day going through the plane and came back with a list of nits like cracked interior plastic, sticking door, etc. and then tried to take $6,000 off the price. I just thanked him for coming down, walked out to the plane, locked it up and went home. He called me about a half hour later to complain that he had wasted a lot of time and money in the pre-buy and thought it was inconsiderate of me to walk away and not negotiate.
I told him that his offer did not deserve a response and that since he had done such a thorough pre-buy and had found nothing but cosmetic issues, that I had decided to buy the plane myself and that it was no longer for sale.

I got mine for $16k back when it was more expensive. The paint is kinda goofy looking, 9,000 hours... good grief.

Folks get emotional with objects they cherish -- we are probably all guilty of it, which is why he'd probabaly be better off going through a broker. It is entertaining following the posts and questions, and agree that folks are probably asking the guy certain questions just to get a rise out of him! If there is a paucity of IFR GPS equipped 150/152s out there (and I am sure that is the case), he might find the person who would have bought another plane and installed the same equipment and figures that s/he can just buy this for around $40K. I believe he has gobs of money invested.
I remember gulping at what I paid for Wilbur (and what I have put in him since) but I am SO glad I bought him. I paid a lot but I figure that I will have him a long time (hopefully forever) so it really does not matter in the grand scheme of things. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 12,760 Member/10,000+ posts! | Member/10,000+ posts! Doing an evaluation using the NAAA tool on Trade-a-Plane the basic airplane with total time and engine and prop times gets a value of $28,900. Adding the Garmin avionics, the King KX 155, the JPI analyzer and fuel flow the figure bumps up $11,700 for a total of $40,600.
For that princely sum you would seem to have a nice airplane.
I have to admit I am tempted.
