HA! I was trying to figure out how to color those chevrons the original color too. I'll try your reflective tape idea. Sure beats $271.00!

Mine was quite cheap. I downloaded am image of the web, modified it, printed it out in color on normal thick paper. I then stripped the paint off the gust lock and repainted it. Right away, with paint was sticky, I attached the emblem. I then waited for it to dry and then started with a light coat of sealer, progressing work it up to a thick coat. If I get around to it, I'll take a pic and post it. Turned out quite nice though,,

Sounds like an expert job. I'd like to see it.

My main concern was coating mine with a clear coat so that it would not get oily and greasy like the original one did.

Seems like the control lock is one of the first things we touch in the cockpit after doing a pre-flight, adding oil, handling dirty tie-down chains, etc...

Jim:

There are now some pics of the refurb project in another post. They include the attached "wide shot" of the panel area, which shows the completed control lock in the lower left-hand corner.

Nice looking control lock and the rest of your panel looks nice, too.

Thank you,, It's amazing what can be downloaded off the net and printed off. I'm fairly happy with the way my gust lock turned out.
