Call me cheap, but I would be looking to limit the entry dollars to $4k. New Cylinders, oil pump, bearings with a reworked crank and cam ~$10k, paint ~$8k, interior ~$1.2k, avionics ~$2k, glass ~$800, brakes/wheels/tires ~$600, misc ~$2k.....
Looks like it needs ~$25k in parts and a lot of free TLC. Value when completed ~$29k.
By the way which prop does it have?

McCauley prop. You fella's realistic observations aren't giving me the warm fuzzy...

With that in mind, it's your call, not ours.

Another way to look at it:
How does the cost of the plane compare vs. the amount of money to be made by parting it out on ebay?

To give an example, I sold my 150 as "needs overhaul" for $11,000. but, the paint and interior were excellent. The prop was freshly overhauled, the windshield and many accessories were new.

It sounds like this plane is really not worth much more than a few grand, and that assumes complete logs and all paperwork in order.

If the idea of doing the restoration sounds like fun to you, and you'd like to save the plane from the scrap yard then go for it! But I wouldn't pay very much.

One other consideration...unlikely, but should be considered. If the C150 is going to be allowed as a light sport (I know, I know) then it will appreciate dramatically. If you were to buy the plane and not do anything expensive until that happens (or doesn't) it could be worth a bit more than we realize.

If......

I know jack chit about aircraft worth, but $8K seems like alot, doesn't it?

My 150M was bought for 13.5K, IFR capable, ADF, MX300 after market radio, new plastic inside, good windshields, Rosen visors, with a engine at overhaul, but in mid-70's compression that I hope for another 100 hours, and a new paint job by the owner that looks like hell up close, but gets compliments alot. If you don't get to close, it looks great.

I've priced the engine overhaul at $5k being an A&P (like Gary) with a IA as a friend, so that makes a really good 150 without alot of WORK making it around 19K, with a zero time engine.

This ship sounds like alot of work. Depends on how you price your time invested, and even so, the parts and paint will be alot. Still, you can't put a price on building something up, if that's something you would enjoy doing.

Good Luck.
