2400 SMOH, 5000 +/-TT Airframe and engine
Been sitting for 10 years outside. Needs Wheels, brakes, radios...either bad or missing.
Exterior 2 out of 10.
Interior mostly rotten, some plastic salvageable.
Engine must be overhauled prior to running. And most likely will require a new crankshaft due to corrosion.
Good Prop, mags, starter, and alternator.
Wrinkles on exterior skin aft of the gear that are negligible per the shop manual, and a seat pan crack that has been repaired.
The windows are pretty milky, and would be changed during the project.
Any guessers? It is for sale. I'm looking for a starting point in the negotiations with the owner.

Estimate the final selling price at project finish, subtract off the value of the parts required. That'll yield your labour for the project. If you can live with that dollar figure for your labour - it's a done deal.

That's actually very close to the ballpark I'm thinking, but it's not like I need another project. But...if the plane could be had RIGHT, it could be a nice project plane.
Thank you for your guess!

That is how well someone agrees with you. The more they agree, the more genius they are!

The plane need a paint, an overhaul (and a crankshaft re-grind or replacement $$$), radio and a complete interior ?
Lets say... you get it for 8000$, add 13000$ for the overhaul and a new crank, 2000$ on a new interior and seat recovering, 1500$ on new radio, and 10000$ on a paint job...
Total cost (being very conservative): 34,5K$, wich is about it's value on the market. And I'm not counting everything else you might have to fix (windows, instrument, tires and brakes - wich you said need to be adressed).
Personnaly, I would pay no more than what it's worth if you decide to part it out after discovering some nasty problems. Final decision is up to you.

If you shop around you can find paint shops that would charge a LOT less than 10 grand.

It's all about the mission, and/or the intention...And Gary didn't mention wether he intend to keep it or try to make couple of $ trough this project.
