It just goes to show that you have to be in the right place at the right time, and you can't give up on the dream! I looked up Parkland Estates, David. It looks to be a lot bigger than Haller with about twice the number of homes, and much nicer homes, too. Outside my price range, especially now. But, I like Haller because it is small. It very much has that rural village feel to it, sometimes too rural, when the deer are crossing the turf runway. Do you still have 100/130 there? I noticed you have mogas, too! We don't have either, and probably never will.
Guys like us is why others don't live on airparks... we ain't gonna sell until we have to!
Yeah, like you, we couldn't afford to buy our own house at today's prices. Parkland has built up quite a bit since we moved in and there are only a couple of lots left without a building on them. Most of the newer houses are much bigger than the older ones. Ours is at the lower end of the price range for Parkland these days.
No 100/130 at Parkland, just 100LL and 87 octane Mogas. We've been having problems buying fuel, mostly because we buy in relatively small lots. We've just worked out a load sharing arrangement with another airport which we're hoping will stabilize the fuel situation.
Having fuel available is a bit of a hassle for the HOA. The tanks and pumps need maintenance. The tanks have to meet EPA regulations and will have to be replaced eventually. There's additional insurance costs for the HOA. Most all of the pilots love the convenience and since the HOA is not a business, the fuel is sold to us at cost. It's usually the cheapest fuel around. The fuel is billed on a monthly basis on our HOA bills.
