Jerry,
Welcome. I fly out of Sterling but have my 152 worked on by Bob Booth at Aircraft Services of New England. If he is the mechanic that has been working on the plane, I can assure you that there have been no shortcuts taken unless the owner refused to authorize the work. Bob is very knowledgable and THOROUGH. Still not a bad idea to have another set of eyes look at the plane. If Aircraft Services is not currently maintaing it, I would highly recommend Bob to do a pre-buy for you if you decide to follow up with this plane.

George,
Thanks, yes, Bob is the mechanic. He just signed off the annul last week. The logs, since Bob's been working on it are well kept and reflect pride of ownership . Other people have given the same reference for Bob.

I have talked to Bob in the past about other planes I had been looking at. In fact I had a ticket and was days from flying to Raliegh for a 150, I went in to ask Bob a few questions about the plane in NC and thats when he told me that the owner of this plane was looking to sell.

In fact, I had the plane in a prebuy in NC and it was the mechanic who was souring the deal. Talk about bad gut feelings, not about the plane, about the mechanic. The owner is a club member, Everything the owner told me turned out to be true, never doublespeak. When I joined the club and went back over his posts, they all confirmed his story. I ended up stopping the prebuy, and was setting up another one when I found the current plane.

The guy in NC was leaning towards keeping his plane at that point also.

tomorrow i'll verify the SMOH inthe logs.
Thanks again
jerry

Looks pretty enough. Now all you require are numbers. When was the bottom end done. New parts? rebuild? Yellow tags? When was the top end done? New? Used? Yellow tags? What parts were used.

How about this, give us the information of when the engine was last done on the bottom. Skow us the log entry and yellow tags.

Same as with the top. When we can set hard numbers on the table we;ll have a better idea.

Got a chance to double check the logs today, made a copy of the OH entries. they won't scan so i can't post them. It looks like the top and bottom were done together, 506 hrs.SMOH. annual 2 weeks ago states compressions 78/74/75/76

Technically, for a mechanic or repair station to sign off a continental engine as an overhaul you have to comply with the provisions of Continental Service Bulletin SB97-6. Otherwise its a big IRAN, Inspect and Repair As Necessary.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like a new cylinder kit with an older part number. Here [aeroinstock.com] and here [aeroinstock.com] are what is available now.
