Check out a good used 8KCAB Super Decathelon! It is 180 hp, fully aerobatic (can perform many more manuevers than that 180/150), 35 gallon tanks, a tail dragger, and it was designed from the outset to be this way. The wing is a duble curvature which is much better for aerobatic than the 150 wing. Bet you will be very happy with one of those!

It caught my attention as both a hotrod and a fair price for this combination. The only negative I can see is that the airplane doesn't have long range tanks.

Without long range tanks and a 180HP I would guess the fuel burn is about 12gph to 14gph ... ? If so on standard tanks that is about 1.9 total flying time. But cruise is higher I wonder what the real cruise is here. Then 30 minutes of reserve time on landing..hmmmm may be better taking longer time to get there in my standard 150 with over 3+ hrs buring 6 gph.

Actually, I flight plan for 10 gph, typically hit about 9.5 and at altitude (Clinton trip last year) averaged 8.9 gph for an O-360 A1F6D.

12-14 is the domain of the Cont O-470....My O-320 equipped 150/150 was around 8-8.5 gph. The O-360 is a great engine.

A Lycoming 0-360 180 hp will normally burn approximately 10 GPH at cruise power settings in a Cessna or Cherokee airframe at moderate altitudes. I'd expect a clean 150 Taildragger should cruise near 150 mph on 10 GPH with a prop pitched to be effecient at those speeds. N150DM will cruise at 140 mph at 2700 rpm and burns 10 GPH at that speed with a climb prop. At the price of fuel these days I'm running her more conservatively. The O-360 could achieve the speed at a more liesurely rpm.

From Jeff and Dan's posts the 10 gal fuel burn ain't all that bad with the 140 mph cruise. Thanks for the info.

Weeeelllll, I will qualify my post by saying that I never saw 140 mph in my 150/150. Wayne's and Dan's are faster as at 2350 rpm, I usually planned for 120 mph.... It could have used a different prop too as best rpm I ever saw was 2550. Now the 180/150 may "cruise" at 140, that's about what I see in my Cardinal (135-145 depending on power settings TAS).

You know Jeff, actually I think the Cardinal is a cleaner airplane with a faster wing. I think that's why it takes so much fuel to push my 150 through the air at 140 mph. I'm sure the Cardinal will do the same speed or more on 10 gph or less, and that's pretty efficient considering there's a big weight difference. Gotta love that big cabin!

Then there are the RV-6s that motor along at around 200 mph on 10 gph or less. THAT would be nice. Downside is all they have room for is a toothbrush and the Visa card when traveling x-country <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
