My bid of $75 was immediately upped to $76 by an automated bid...so wouldn't my sniper bid would be outdone by a $1?

Edit - I see...not in the case where my "max" bid exceeds their max bid...smart!

So this is what it feels like to hi-jack a post? grin

Brian,
I just go from the top about 3 or 4 inches down over the opening in the cowel to the bottom blush. It worked just fine last year so I just put some on the other day for this winters flying, I know it looks kinda bad blush but it works!!

Yeah, that's how proxy bidding works. If you bid a thousand dollars, but the next highest was five hundred, then you bought it for $501.00. As someone who made decent money selling motorcycle parts on eBay, I'll give a little unsolicited advice. Bidding well before the auction ends just drives up the price. I haven't yet used a sniper service, but I have set my alarm for the middle of the night just to bid on something. If it is something you really want/need and has a reasonable "buy it now" price, then jump on it. I always set a buy it now, but had things sell for 2-3 times for that at the end. I've also been on the other end, paying too much because I hesitated.

I am high bidder so far. Winter has arrived in Saskatchewan. I don't really need the whole kit. I just need the grill.

Just for info, this kit will fit serial numbers
15071129 to 15072003. I wonder why the seller just wouldn't list that.

Mine is 1966 150F serial # 15063385. I wonder if the grill will fit.

Rob, yes, that's so!

Snipers don't always win, which is another reason I don't feel badly using one. The maximum bid stil wins regardless. The only difference is in how it's timed.

The eBay auto-bid feature automatically tops the last bid within your preset limit. That's mainly to eBay's advantage, not your's! The higher the bid, the more the seller owes eBay, and the more you have to pay to win. eBay just LOVES aggressive bidders locked in a bidding war!

The sniper bid sits and waits until the last possible second to place the high bid (again, within your preset limit). It can only be out-bid by an auto-bid, and only if the auto-bid's limit is set higher than your limit. You can sit and wait and do the same thing manually, but you're betting that your machine and internet connection is faster than your opponents (mines not... and, you have to be sitting there watching/refreshing the bidding). Just like auto-bid, I can set my sniper limit days in advance, and forget it, without fear of a bidding war. It sends me an e-mail immediately with the end results of biding, just like eBay.

The biggest advantage is gained when there are few bidders and the bidding is low, and there don't appear to be any auto-bids. Your sniper sneaks in and takes the last possible shot with a $1 higher bid, and you've won without the bidding war! I only use sniper for higher dollar items, though. For me, that's $75-$100 or more.

https://www.ezsniper.com/ is the one I use, but there are others.

The grill is available direct from Cessna for around $175 - keep that in mind when bidding.

This cowl cover will fit all the "oval-intake" cowlings (ie - all 1970 and earlier birds). There are a couple of part numbers for the oval cowl cover, but all will physically interchange.

The whole kit is nice in that it combines the heater output from both left and right mufflers to improve the heat supplied to the cabin.
