That is a nice looking airplane, Charlie! I definately understand your interest in her.
Thanks for the pics. Now I understand what we're looking at. You were correct to "make a stink" about the wrinkled area. It is definately prior damage, perhaps related to the earlier incident, and definately not production related as I had earlier suggested. I've never seen this kind of damage in this area before, but I do still believe it is only cosmetic in nature. I do not believe structural integrity has been more than superficially compromised. If resale value is a concern, it WILL affect value, and will make resale more difficult.
You will see this damage on every prefight, and you will look for it in every picture. It will at some point bother you greatly that it is there, just like a dented fender on your new car! Unlike the fender, this will be much more difficult and expensive to repair, and is likely why it has not already been repaired. Many prospective buyers would walk away because of this small flaw, and I suspect some already have. You have not, but only because of your airframes background that most buyers do not have.
If you can handle the fact that the flaw is there, and don't mind absorbing some extra financial loss at resale due to it's existance, then you can likely recoup any losses in many trouble free hours of blissful flight in your new airplane!
Please understand that I am not bashing the airplane! It otherwise appears as a fine example. I am being brutally honest with you, as you should be with yourself, before purchase, not after. I really think you've already become attached and might need a "buying buddy" to help you in this decision.
Congratulations, Charlie. I hope the deal goes through. For all the nice things, that little hickie won't matter a lick...it's only cosmetic.
Carl is right, you'll see it every time you go fly. I've got the same kinds of things on my plane (none are perfect)...except Bill Warner's...but in the air, she's a real joy to fly. I'm sure you'll have lots of enjoyable times and experiences with your little gem. And the way the firewall was painted...that looks GREAT!!!!!!!!
We'll probably be at Page, AZ again this year. See you there?
Nice plane and, from what you've told us...fair price. Congratulations!

Crease looks just like the one(s) on my 150, and she made it to Clinton and back what, 3,4 times? My doors did not close easily however. And, when I sold her, the buyer never even mentioned the exterior condition of the plane. He was far more concerned w/ the mechanicals.
Pish posh I say, say hello to the new love of your life.
Mechanically and (mostly) cosmetically, this is a nice bird for the price. To be honest, I assummed a decent 150 with decent radios for $21K would have a really rough exterior. This one looks good enough to park proudly in front of the airport cafe' at least for me. I'm seriously in love with this sweetie, and I guess that's all that counts!
A pilot friend today asked me if the wrinkled area could have been caused by a buffetting seat belt buckle left outside, and I feel that IS a possibility. They can wreak havoc on thin aluminun skin sometimes. So, I've decided to make that the cause (in MY mind) and be done with it. No worries!
The seller is going to do a fresh pitot/static and a weight and balance for no additional money, so I imagine I'll take delivery in a week or so. I'm SO excited I can hardly see straight, yet I must maintain my "serious mature pilot composure" right? (Yeah right!) I mention this because obviously you 150 owners know what Im talking about, and I just have to tell SOMEONE about my NEW (to me) CESSNA! Let the adventure begin...........!

Never!!
Right Gary??
Congrats, Charlie. You are going to have a lot of fun and adventures I am sure!!
And please give me a call when you have the opportunity! It would be great to chat with ya!

About a dozen of us from various states got together at Page, AZ at the end of this past May. We air-toured the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, and some took a ground tour of Antelope Canyon. Take a look at some past posts below.
