Trade out the wings with Mr. Ed. And then resell the donor 150............. You know, that tank that fits in the baggage area always looked pretty good to me. I know this topic has been hashed out repeatedly in other threads... I just couldn't resist butting in. It would be really cool if you could set it up with quick disconnect fittings, and only install it for long trips....

Ya know Steve, I have the plans for such a tank sitting right here in a drawer. It is so simple and easy. The problem is that you could never in a million years get it approved by the FAA. And the regs are very explicit about a fuel tank in the baggage compartment so it would be a way too easy "GOTCHA!". All it would take is one snitch to see you fueling a tank within the baggage compartment and go blabbing his head off. Probably the reason so many people just decide to carrying jerry cans, huh?? So much safer!! | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 14,782 Likes: 544 Member/10,000+ posts! | Member/10,000+ posts! It's a 14+ gallon tank, shaped to fit on the floor of the baggage compartment with an external fill-cap. Pretty slick, and FAA-approved.

Aeroquip disconnects... done as a field-approval under the guise of "improving access to fuselage access panels and tailcone during annual inspections..." I wonder...?

Aeroquip disconnects... done as a field-approval under the guise of "improving access to fuselage access panels and tailcone during annual inspections..." I wonder...? Some good ideas, Kirk. But first, wouldn't you would require the approval of the original owner's of the STC to change their STC????? Plus, plugging that big hole in the side of the airplane may be another problem?? How about filling it internally,(No having to cut out an access hole in the side of the fuselage.). Using a sealed gas cap and added vent line? Have the tank and pump mounted on a sheet which is then attached to the floor of the baggage compartment, just like you describe? Removing and installing as one unit. How about that?? | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 35,523 Likes: 554 DA POOBS Member with 30,000+ posts!! | DA POOBS Member with 30,000+ posts!! Wings are actually pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things. ![[Linked Image from animatedimages.org]](https://www.animatedimages.org/data/media/218/animated-penguin-image-0137.gif) [ animatedimages.org] Imagine a united world. Found it! Unfortunately it sold. It was listed [ cgi.ebay.com] on eBay. Then it was relisted [ cgi.ebay.com] and sold quickly. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 7,197 Likes: 2 Member/5000+posts! | Member/5000+posts! I think most of us are familiar with the O&N tank but many owners' ability to shell out the jing for it renders that option moot. Bill and I, just for grins, kicked around the idea of using a nearly-indestructable tank designed for below-deck boat use, an aircraft approved fuel pump, and necessary hardware. Installing it in the baggage compartment yourself the total cost would be about $300 using high quality components. The tanks come in a variety of shapes and sizes and we we worked the idea out to the point of being simple in design and installation, very economical, and virtually foolproof. Sadly it is, of course not FAAproof. Sooooo...again, a moot point
