Just how many ramp checks are performed in the Alvord, anyway? grin blush

Yeah, I know! Ya gotta take off from somewhere to get there! frown

*******************************************************************

I just spied a set of 150 wings on eBay, current bid $305,00, no reserve. No idea what year, about 2800 hours on them.

Why so cheap? The leading edge of one has been replaced and needs to be riveted in place. To do this properly will require deskinning the upper camber for access, installing new rivets from front to back, as per the factory assembly technique. I've done this before, and it's a time consuming chore! This guy may not have known that before he removed the leading edge. Still, for the winning bid (plus shipping, of course) and a little elbow grease, you've probably got a good set of wings (wish he lived near me!)

I have seen wings with factory long range tanks installed (advertised as serviceable) go for $500 each on eBay (or was it Barnstormers?)!

Thats the one i was thinking of Eric. I kind of liked the plane even with the poor paint but the price was 24000 firm.

Ya know Carl, it really is not the FAA that I am primarily concerned about today. The chance of actually getting ramp checked is nill to none. No! What concerns me is there appears to be a ever growing populace of people within our own ranks that seem to take the greatest of pleasure in policing their fellow pilots. For example, just a few months ago, I was changing the oil in Mr. Ed. When I noticed this guy walk out of the FBO. Over across the parking lot. Through the gate and directly over to my hanger. No "Hello!" No "How are you doing?" But the first words out of his mouth were, " Do you have a license to be working on this airplane?" I politely told him..........well? Maybe I wasn't so polite.....................

Then we had this guy criticize some of us for having fun out on our recent adventure to the Alvord Desert!

What is up with this? Are any of you also seeing more of this where you are at?

No, not concerning airplanes!

The current discord at Haller concerns people turning each other in because of how they interpret local "zoning laws". They don't want their neighbors driving well kept "work trucks" home with a company name on them!

Yes, the problem is this:

I do something on my plane or fly it in a certain way, and someone else has a mechanic that says he can't do that work on his plane, or the FBO won't rent to a fellow who wants to do what I'm doing.

So he feels "disenfranchised." He insists that if he can't do it, then I should not be allowed to do it either.

Have you heard of the old saying "dog in the manager." A dog doesn't eat hay, but out of spite he will keep the cows from coming to the manger to eat hay simply because he can't.

So watch out for a dog in the manger attitude.

Bill , I've been flying since 79 , & I can't tell ya the time's I've been Policed by my fellow aviator ........sometimes deserved , but most of the time , they had a "misconception" about whatever they were "scolding" me on .

I really think it has more to do with the type people that are doing the policing . Most time's the "Arrogant Souls" , "don't know they don't know" !

I'm the kind'a guy though , that could be sittin in a thousand seat stadium , & if there's 1 "Obnoxious Drunk" in there lookin for trouble............He'll be sittin "Right beside ME" ! cry

I've noticed anytime you start "experencing Life outside the Norm" , People start to watching ya real close ! eek

Yup, I keep it right next to my license to slap nosey people who ask stupid questions! grin If it is your plane, then all you need is a private pilot license to change the oil.

Going back around 20 years or so, I made my living as an arborist (climbing trees with a chain saw in one hand). The business was big enough to have it's own maintenance shop. One time some OSHA clown, or maybe it was an insurance guy, came down to the shop and started badgering the mechanic big time. Finally, he chased him outside and back to his car with the biggest wrench he could get his hands on. laugh I wish I could say that I was a witness, but I heard all about it shortly afterwards. We thought for sure the guy would come back with the cops, but he never did. Ahhh....the good old days.
