An aquaintance of mine is paying $20K+ annually for the insurance on his new 4 place helicopter.

It's all relative.

When I looked into it, the insurance agent said that kit builders don't usually buy as much hull coverage because they will fix any damage themselves.

Wow, some states have crazy tax rates! I almost feel bad about complaining that MA wants $100.00 per year to register my plane in their state.

Taxes, Insurance, the PLANE, maintenance....a Hanger!!! This is why I'm getting a 150 rather than a 172. I really don't know what its going to cost for the first year. I am just assuming its going to be around $600 a month.

I don't know why I think I'll be building a kit plane any time soon...Seems foolish to even think about it, with what I just admitted.

Lots too learn.

That's one reason I keep mine in RI.
$30/ year.

For just shy of $30k hull value insured, my policy without my pilot's license was in the $700 range. Closer to Hung's mentioned premium once license was obtained, and even lower once you acquire more type hours, attend WINGS programs, etc... I used AOPA Insurance Agancy who got me a policy through Global Aerospace. Tail draggers and RG light airplanes will REALLY getcha on insurance.

I like it! It is like an improved CH-701 in a quick build kit.
