Lyle,
I have used the 740B and it is a nice unit but it has a slow processor, touch screen doesn't work as smooth as the I pad or modern IPhone.
I went with a series 4 iPad mini which works much quicker and smoother than the 740B.
Adventure Pilot has a new unit (android) but not sure how that one works and it is pricey compared to the iPad mini 4.
The 5 and 6 mini will work also.
get a iPad 4 with min 64g memory with cell phone capability (has a built in GPS) and you don't have to activate cell service.
I also use the iLevil Astro + (love there traffic app section of ilevel app (works only with iPad not android, needed since I'm under class B airspace) and you can run 6 units WiFi off it.
I only use the apple products because of the ifly app. and the Astro + (ads-b in traffic).
The IFly app is outstanding. (asked them to please overlay the vector chart over the sectional to make it easier to enter way points and navigate with older GPS navigators). This also would make it easier to put in vor's in your nav radios quicker if there is a GPS outage or a military Jamming of GPS (happens around white sands). He said it would be added to the wish list for iFly to make it similar to the Fore flight feature.
PS: if you are worried about it overheating when flying get a X-Naut cooling unit for the iPad that works and is not too expensive.
Mike
