If those new $50/90 parts are NOT PMA - then there is probably an argument for owner produced parts. I can't see any that claim they are PMA. All are coming from automotive parts folks. (Which is where Cessna got them to start with)
If you are not worried about it looking original - I'm thinking you could fabricate something with some aluminum angle, bar, a bolt, washers and a nylock nut and get something perfectly functional that weighs a whole lot less. I'm not sure the sprung lock would be needed if you arranged for it to be an overcenter fit.....
