When I installed my new Whelen 71055 LED tail beacon light assembly, the original alum. shield was not tall enough and a bit narrow, so I put a piece of "100 MPH" speed tape on the front of the dome as a shield. The speed tape was suggested by the Whelen rep. at the AOPA convention, and he was just validating what I had already planned on doing. The "100 MPH" speed tape is basically a roll of very thick aluminum foil with good stick-um on it so it sticks very well. You can cut it with scissors to shape the front of your particular lens- then after applying it you smooth it out with a plastic scraper, and it won't blow off. It sticks on 767/757's leading edges and they go a lot faster than 100mph! The speed tape also removes easily, not like other tapes that leave a mess and require Goo-Gone or solvent to clean off.
