I went through the same process with my wife.
I really loved my 150 but it was too snug for my sweety so we got her a 182.
Now she rides in the right REAR seat. We shove the co-pilot's seat all the way forward and she has first class leg room. The CG shift aft also makes landing easier (not as nose heavy) and we pick up a couple of knots of air speed.
