I kind of blame the insurance company. They probably bid the recovery out to the lowest bidder without even considering their qualifications in aircraft recovery.
A thought though...when I was researching "my next plane" I seem to remember something about the Mooney having the one-piece main spar carry all the way through the airplane which is why it was so strong. I don't own one nor ever looked, but could that be a contributing factor.
