As I reported in an earlier thread [cessna150-152.com], I've been using a Garmin Forerunner, strapped onto the air vent "can". It works, but isn't very sophisticated (no airspace boundries, no obstructions... in fact, there's no built-in database at all!)

So, after comparing the various aviation-specific GPS receivers (and searching the forum, of course), I finally ordered a Lowrance AirMap 500 [avionicswest.com]. Avionics West, just down the road in Savannah, TN, has 'em brand new for only $299, which is $100 cheaper than I've seen anywhere else. Cheap enough to make up for the enormous Tennessee sales tax I'll have to pay on it.

I'll post my thoughts on it once the UPS guy drops it off and I get a chance to test it out.

Thanks for letting me gloat. I get the feeling if I were to stick my head into my co-workers offices and say "Guess what? I bought a new GPS unit!" they just wouldn't get it.
