For those that follow these posts, I thought I'd report on my recent buying experience. The seller and I executed a 4 page purchase agreement, with contigency protections for both of us in case of a failed transaction. On a decent weather day (last Sunday) the seller brought the airplane to my FBO (about 200 nm) and the pre-buy went off with minimal issues. The only flaw was the transponder/encoder inspection. I insisted on it (and paid for the inspection of course) but the seller was fairly certain that no issues would arise as he'd never had an issue of "being seen" by ATC. As it turns out the transponder was defective and needed replacement (he paid for that). Everything else checked out great and the plane is in great shape and very well maintained.

We concluded the sale and I went out and promptly fried the alternator on my first flight by checking the overvoltage light with too many things connected (NAv lights, landing light, and beacon). Lesson learned for me...never flip that switch with everything on!

Anyways, I'm still very pleased with the way this went and am now the proud owner of N45716, a 1976 C150M.

Thanks for all the great advice...hope to be at Clinton this year and meet some of you!

Rick
